Policies
This document describes
the policies of Software Engineering, Inc. regarding product sales,
support, and upgrades. Software Engineering, Inc. reserves the
right to change these policies at any time without prior notice.
This document supersedes any and all previous statements issued by
Software Engineering, Inc. regarding product sales, support,
and upgrades.
Software Distribution and Licensing
Most of our products are distributed in
full via the Internet and other electronic media. Each product
serves as a self-contained demonstration. Certain features are
typically disabled, requiring a software license to be purchased
before all features become available to the user. This way, the
customer is able to try the software before ever spending any
money on the product.
How To Place An Order
Each product includes an order form in
the on-line documentation. Simply print this form and fill in the
appropriate information. Fax or mail the order form with your
payment to Software Engineering, Inc. You can also place your
order over the phone using a MasterCard or Visa credit card. Please
note that we are not equipped for instant credit card validation
and cannot issue your licensing information over the phone. We
will accept orders that are transmitted to us via e-mail. However,
this is not a secure communications medium and we do not recommend
the transmission of credit card information using e-mail. It is
far more secure to send your order by fax. In most cases, we will
fill your order within three business days.
Quantity
Discount
When ordering ten or more licenses for a
single product, a 10% discount will be applied to the product
price. This discount may not be combined with any other promotional
offer, unless otherwise noted.
Shipping
and Handling Charges
All orders are subject to a fixed
shipping and handling charge of $3.95. The handling fee offsets the
average cost of processing an order, not the exact cost of filling
each order. Orders are typically shipped via fax, U.S. Mail, or
e-mail. You may request FedEx or UPS shipping for an additional
charge.
What Do I
Get?
When you purchase a license for one of
our products, you will receive software license information and a
CD. The software license information will be transmitted to
you by e-mail or fax if possible. The software license consists of
a License Number and an associated Password. In some cases, an
electronic key may be issued as well. The software license
information is required to enable all product features.
All of our products are distributed on
CD media. A printed software license and a CD containing the
program ordered will be sent to you by mail. You can request
shipping via FedEx or UPS for an additional charge.
Upgrade Policy
Upgrades are linked to the version
number of each software product. The product version number
consists of two parts, a version number and a release number,
separated by a decimal point; e.g. v1.2 indicates version 1,
release 2. When new software is distributed, the numbers are
increased based upon the degree of changes to the software. If the
changes are mainly bug fixes and minor improvements, only the
release number is incremented. If the changes include significant
new features or enhancements, the version number is incremented and
the release number is reset to zero.
When you upgrade your software, the
version changes determine if your old password will work or if you
must purchase an upgrade password from Software Engineering, Inc.
If the new software version number is the same as the previously
licensed version and only the release number is different, your old
password will still work. In this case you can simply install
the new revision from our web site. If the new software version
differs from the previously licensed version, the upgrade charge is
25% of the price of the new product plus applicable shipping and
handling charges.
Support
Our
technical support policy is quite simple, reflecting our
long-standing philosophy of supporting what we sell.
Purchasing a license entitles you to one full year of
telephone support and upgrades at no additional charge.
During the
support period, you are entitled to receive all upgrades that
are released. This includes major version upgrades as well as minor
revisions. Upgraded software will be available for download from
our web site at no charge. New software license information will be
issued upon request at no additional charge. A $10.00 fee will be
charged to cover media, shipping and handling if you request a new
CD.
After the
support period expires, the price of technical support is
$50/Hour charged in ¼ hour increments.
