Nosostat v3.0
Nosostat
addresses a common need among long term care facilities, that of
recording and reporting things that are critical to monitoring the
quality of care provided.
Nosostat is a computer program for tracking
infections and incidents within a long term care facility. Towards this
end, patient admission, discharge, device usage, and drug administration
is logged. Professionally formatted reports help to visualize and
understand the data that is collected. This type of tracking can help to
improve the quality of health care in a long term care facility by
exposing trends and potential problem areas.
Nosostat was developed to solve a real world problem
expressed by a Director of Nursing at a long term care facility. She was
concerned with maintaining and improving the quality of care for
patients. She lamented that no one had created a computer program to
relieve her of the intense amount of paperwork and hand drawn graphs she
had to make to do her job. The computer solutions available tended to be
add-on features to big expensive software systems. She wanted something
simple that was focused on solving this problem, not a whole new
software system for her facility.
Software Engineering spent a great deal of one-on-one time with her to
understand the information that needed to be collected and the way she
"thinks" about the job at hand. With this information, the computer
programmers at Software Engineering developed a solution.
The result--a software program that enables the Director of Nursing at
a long term care facility to input patient data or delegate the task to
a subordinate. Then she is able to draw upon that base of data when
doing her job of analyzing the big picture at her facility. Further, Nosostat
data is standardized and easily shared in multi-facility networks so the
managing nurse can monitor the details of every facility in her command.
Nosostat tracks:
- Individual
patient medication
- Incidents
and wounds by patient
- Infections
- Device
usage by patient
- Events
- Patient
admission/discharge
- Nosocomial
and non-nosocomial infections by patient and area of facility
Nosostat creates
visually appealing, easy-to-read reports depicting trends, areas of
incidents or high infection occurrences. The trend reports enable
facilities to identify and proactively address incidents. Thorough
documentation assists with inspections and aids in improving the overall
quality of health care.
Nosostat was designed with ease of use in mind. Nosostat
enables user to:
- Share
access to the database over a network allowing for multiple user
collaboration.
- Maintain
the database at your facility on your computer.
- Print
blank data collection forms for Fall Risk Assessments and Pressure Sore
Assessments.
Accuracy and standardization
in reporting is important. To achieve this, Nosostat offers the
following features:
- Provides
for both State and Federal disease notifications.
- Includes
the U.S. FDA Drug Code to provide a comprehensive drug list of
prescriptions and drug use entry.
- Supports
version 9 of the WHO International Classification of Diseases tables.
- Enables
users to sort and customize event display information pertinent to their
facility.
- Creates
Infection Control Maps using the facility's floor plan.
- Creates
Incident Maps using the facility's floor plan.
- Categorizes
infections using NNIS standards and enables users to create their own
classifications.
